Windmill Networking in Southern California (previously "So Cal Sushi")

In December '09 Neal Schaffer re-started his LA-local meetings (they were primarily in OC) and of course there was an interesting selection of people. This is Neal's concept/book "Windmill Networking" put into practice. Great format, from Neal's introductory statement, the table of biz cards, name-tags, round-table introductions (sometimes video recorded), to lunch (generally prix fixe). I've been to a few and also had excellent interactions with Neal - he knows LinkedIn like no other. Recommended.

Self Description

Windmill Networking in Southern California ("So Cal Sushi") is an open networking group for professionals in Southern California, including Los Angeles and Orange County. We are passionate in learning about & sharing advice on social media, and the main purpose of the group is to physically connect professionals by meeting over monthly casual networking lunches. The So Cal Sushi lunches attract a diverse crowd of professionals. Whether you are in sales, marketing, finance, IT, staffing, etc., in transition, own your own business, or you just want to meet other like-minded professionals and ask for advice on any social media-related subject, please feel free to come and both share your knowledge as well as ask questions. I am hoping that the So Cal Sushi can become another type of “Trusted Network of Advisors” for you.

InterNations - Los Angeles

Mayte Barahona and Nancy Young are the friendly and inviting LA Ambassadors who run the Community events. The tend to alternate between dinners at interesting establishments and cocktails at upscale hotels. There are commonly 30-40 attendees at each event, and the age averages in the low 30's. True to the InterNations mission, the attendees are essentially all expats and a few locals with international experience or otherwise those with "global minds" (which includes me, I suppose).

InterNations

It's a mostly full-service social network. I've signed up, attended two LA events (see my write-up of the Los Angeles Community), and meet more than a few interesting people. Besides Community Ambassador sponsored events, members may post their own. Worth checking out.
Self Description
InterNations is the first international online community for people who live and work abroad. As a network based on trust, we enable our members to interact with other global minds in a similar situation, with comparable interests and needs. InterNation users can keep in touch with friends and business contacts; they can exchange reliable information on expat-specific topics, both on a global and a local level. InterNations reaches out to the international community: diplomats, members of IGOs and NGOs, foreign correspondents, expatriates employed by multinational companies and their family members. We also cater to the interests of local residents with strong ties to this community (e.g. journalists). Our network is represented by more than 230 local communities all over the world - the perfect platform to exchange opinions and information on local particularities.
